5 Ways to Build a Faith-Filled Family Routine This School Year

The start of a new school year brings fresh schedules, busy calendars, and plenty of opportunities to grow as a family. At Christ the Redeemer, we believe faith isn’t just for Sundays — it’s woven into the everyday rhythms of home, school, and work. Here are five practical ways to build a Christ-centered routine this year.

1. Start the Day with Prayer

Mornings can be chaotic, but even a simple prayer before heading out the door sets the tone. Try praying together in the car, at the breakfast table, or before the bus arrives. A simple prayer like, “Lord, be with us today, help us love others, and keep us safe,” is a powerful habit for children and parents alike.

2. Create a Family Devotion Time

Find a consistent time — breakfast, dinner, or bedtime — to read a Bible verse or story together. Even ten minutes of Scripture, discussion, and prayer can shape your family’s faith. Consider using a children’s devotional, a psalm, or one of the weekly readings from worship.

3. Memorize Scripture Together

Pick one verse each month to memorize as a family. Write it on a card for the car dashboard, the bathroom mirror, or the refrigerator. When children (and adults!) hide God’s Word in their hearts, it becomes a source of comfort and guidance throughout the day.

4. Serve Others as a Family

Serving together builds faith and connection. Look for simple ways to love your neighbors — making a meal for someone in need, writing cards for homebound members, or participating in a church service project. These moments teach children that faith is lived out in love.

5. End the Day with Gratitude and Blessing

Bedtime is a beautiful opportunity to reflect on God’s goodness. Ask each family member to share one thing they’re thankful for, one person they prayed for, and one way they saw God at work. Close with a simple blessing over your children, such as Numbers 6:24-26, “The Lord bless you and keep you…”

A Final Encouragement

Building a faith-filled routine doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly. It means showing up consistently, trusting God’s grace, and making Christ the center of your home one small step at a time. We’re here to walk alongside you at CTR — through Sunday School, worship, family events, and everyday discipleship.
